129/365 : CANWARN.

This was my highlight of the day. Spending a couple hours at Environment Canada’s Toronto office learning about severe weather as part of CANWARN. This is actually a refresher course for me as I’ve been spotting severe weather (from a distance) for the CANWARN program for a few years now. This is a project that started off mainly as Amateur Radio co-operating with EC to call in local severe conditions that the radar beam couldn’t see – things like severe hail, strong winds, flooding and the main reason for the program: Tornadoes. Ontario gets about 16 tornadoes a year and the message from the program is that while everyone wants to see a tornado before they die, the goal is to separate those events by as much time as possible. That’s Geoff Coulson talking at the podium in this photo.
