289/365: One of those days.

One of the things Halton does differently than other GTA municipalities is how they warn about upcoming construction work. They don’t. While other municipalities will put up a sign a week in advance to warn about closing a major throughfare during the Monday morning rush hour, Halton doesn’t feel the need to manage the traffic chaos by letting people take another route. Nope. Here you see the lineup of cars, going to the horizon on Heritage Road in Brampton. The backlog went from Steeles Avenue up past Mayfield, a good 5-6 kilometers. Why? Because someone decided to close Winston Churchill Boulevard during the Monday morning rush hour, this would be the main route that Georgetown’s 49,000 residents take to get to employment areas in Mississauga and Toronto. The spillover onto Heritage (the next north south route after passing the barricaded Winston Churchill) blended with the Erin/Orangeville crowd and voila! Instant hour long commute delay that could have been eliminated if the cars knew about the closure in advance. I would have taken Trafalgar myself.
