247/365: Transition.

Here’s what’s been (literally) cutting into my photography time lately. When I’ve had free time, I’ve been investing it in household projects like replacing my old, worn out carpet with nice new maple hardwood. I’ve also been swapping out a thermostat and pondering finishing my basement. It’s nice to give the house a makeover before the winter hibernation starts.

246/365: Event Horizon.

Now this is what I call fun. I went to visit family in Burlington today. Caught a movie, went for dinner all in all a great day. Well, on the way back I decided to take the scenic route instead of the highways. This is along the way – I’m standing on the bridge for Tremaine Road over the 401 – Canada’s busiest highway – in Milton. Proving once again that I have more fun with my camera in the dark, I took a few long exposures here, averaging 8 seconds a piece before heading home. Then I had even more fun by taking a few photos – three of them – and stacking them in Photoshop just to amp up the car trails even more. I also edited out a couple planes that passed by overhead leaving more of a light scar than light trail.

245/365: Ugh.

Ok, today was another errands day that didn’t leave a lot of room for photography. What photography I did get in was an attempt at zoom bursting that didn’t work out very well at all. You can see the article I was reading on the iPhone’s display here. Sorry to say but this turns out to be a crappy “show must go on” photo who’s inspiration is more to not break the photo-a-day project than any real creativity. Tomorrow will be better … promise!

244/365: Walking Stick.

Not the walking stick I would normally take for a walk in the woods, but still cool. We were geocaching in Mississauga when John (teamvoyagr) spotted this not far from one of the cache stages. The photo is taken against John’s shirt as it clambered all over him.

243/365: Through The Maze.

Found myself at Credit Valley Hospital tonight, visiting. After the visit, I took a few minutes to wander over to the Cancer Survivors Park on the site, as I had heard about the sculptures here like this one of bronze figures passing through a maze – it represents the journey of fighting cancer. Since I was inside the hospital (not the cancer wing) I opted to let the security guards relax by leaving my DSLR at home and I used my iPhone to shoot this. The initial photo was a bit lacking in the exposure department (dark) so I used ProHDR to convince the camera to brighten it up a bit. Edit and crop was performed in Snapseed on the iPhone.

242/365: Fly Me To The Moon.

I was admiring the full moon rising over Mississauga just after work, when a couple WestJet flights went by appearing to travel underneath it. Took a second, but then the next few minutes was spent with me relaxing on the trunk lip of my car with my D800 aimed at the moon, waiting for another plane to pass along. Eventually this ironically named Sunwing jet flew by at just the right time/height. No photoshop fun this time, just a bit of post in Aperture for RAW to JPG and we’re done.

241/365: Hot Wheels.

Interesting day today. Worked late, again. Leaving the office just as twilight is fading to night and I’m starting my drive wondering where I’m going to get the motivation to crank out a photo for today sometime within the next three hours when I just want to drop on a pillow and greet sunrise instead. As I’m pondering this I notice there’s a big storm cloud coming up on the horizon. Close the sunroof it’s gonna rain, and rain hard. Then I notice that the cloud is quite isolated, and attached to the ground. Up ahead. I think it’s a fire, and getting closer it really looks like a fire … but if something was on fire wouldn’t there be fire trucks and police cars and such? Turns out, as I’m pulling off into a nearby parking lot I have my answer. It’s a fire alright, there’s a truck yard going up and the reason for no emergency lights is simple. I got there first. As I’m parking the car, two pump trucks and about three police cruisers arrive to do their thing. I’ve got enough time to grab the good camera and walk over to the other bystanders with their iPhones taking pictures. I guess it was assumed I was some kind of journalist as I got a wide berth and while the police shooed the iPhone toting photographers away they left me to my own devices. Could also be that with the 200mm lens I didn’t have to get dangerously close to the scene either. Anyway, that question about what photo to post today got answered pretty much on demand. No ambulances showed up so I’m pretty sure nobody got hurt, just property damage and it looked to me like most of the vehicles there were not going to be driven any time soon anyway.

More fun around the house. This wonderful pattern is courtesy the speaker grille on our older CRT television set. iPhone with Olloclip macro lens.

239/365: The Blob.

Out running errands late in the day and *gasp* no photo of the day yet! Good thing I am sitting in a car wash with all these textures rolling by on my windows. Hopefully I will get back soon to having the time to plan my photos out a bit more.

238/365: Happy Kitty, Thirsty Kitty ….. (Purr, Purr, Purr).

Visiting my brother in law and his family today, and the resident kitty cat from the neighbour’s came over to visit again. This is a very friendly kitty cat, who didn’t mind the photo opportunity at all!
