158/365: Airport Drama.

Had some time to kill after work, and there was numerous thunderstorms cruising around the area, so I tried to get somewhere quick that would give me a vantage point to capture them. Traffic around here is horrible at 5pm, so I knew I couldn’t run far. Fortunately, there’s a great big airport right around the corner so that’s where I went. This photo is just west of the airport, looking southeast at one of the storm clouds departing. HDR from single RAW image.

157/365: Hello Dad, I’m in Jail!

Hopefully, I’ll never get the chance to see this particular spot again. I had an interesting trip today at work. We visited one of our job sites, the Toronto South Detention Centre, where we’re doing things like installing cameras and fire sprinklers and such. This is the view of one of the prisoner areas from a guard room. It’s amazing how much work goes into the little things, like making sure inmates don’t try to attack each other with the sprinkler heads or light fixtures. The room is unfinished as you can see the TV isn’t hooked up, and some of the cameras / lights are yet to be wired in. By the way, look at that arm that will hold up the TV set … it could also do makeshift work as a crane support.

156/365: One Last Bloom.

Stopped at another abandoned property on my commute home tonight. This time, I’m on Mississauga Road in Brampton, right across from Lionhead Golf Course. I hope this house has some sort of heritage property designation as I find it to be a piece of art, and it’s got Kaneff development signs surrounding it that lead one to believe it’s going to get flattened for a commercial development. I started off taking photos of the house with the construction equipment (that will likely be the home’s demise) in the background, then I saw this large red flower out front. It was the only “non wildflower” to be found on the property, and seems to be growing in defiance to the developer’s plans. For the photo, I decided I wanted to emphasize this flower by focusing on it with the home in the background, and also I had plans to desaturate the home when I was composing the shot. I’m rather pleased with how it turned out.

155/365: Rain Vines.

Took this photo on my way back from Chatham. It’s right beside my geocache at the Homer Watson / 401 carpool lot in Kitchener. I initially stopped to visit the Tim Horton’s nearby and we noticed a bright rainbow in between the rain clouds. While I took photos of the rainbow, I found I was much happier with the photos of the raindrops on the vines, which are just starting to show their fruit.

154/365: Hitched.
A simple photo of my latest purchase…. a trailer hitch for my car, which holds my bike carrier. Had a bit of fun post processing in Snapseed.

153/365 : Plumbing.

Today’s photo represents today’s project. This is the drain from my main floor bathroom. I would appear the connection to the union suffered a structural failure – the connector cracked and leaked. So tonight I wandered over to Home Depot and picked up some PVC bits to fix the drain. The photo shows the old parts that were removed.

152/365: Shattered.

Another trip to my favourite little abandoned gas station for a photo of the day. I notice survey markers have appeared on the site so I’m guessing that I won’t have many more trips to this spot in the future. Anyway, here’s something I noticed last time I was here and made a note to come back and shoot for another day. This is what’s left of the glass door that used to lead inside the convenience store portion of the property. The door is now sealed up with plywood.

151/365: Hamilton Harbour.

This is a view of Burlington Bay / Hamilton Harbour from below the Skyway Bridge. I had an errand to run in Hamilton tonight and as I was getting close to the skyway I noticed there was the makings of a dramatic sky this evening. Only one thing to do, jump off the QEW and take Eastport Drive over to the lighthouse parking lot and setup the tripod. This image is an HDR composed from 9 photos.

150/365: Secure Signal.

Another day with a quick photo, because really, how am I gonna top last week :). Anyhow, this is the geocaching mascot, Signal. When I got my new Corolla back in February, I strapped him into the back seat and he’s pretty much become my car’s mascot too.

149/365: Negative Space Projector.

Back from the week long trip into Algonquin. At this point I hadn’t even downloaded the cameras from the trip yet so I was taking a bit of a breather from intense photography. Instead, I popped out to see the movie “The Avengers” with my father. On a Monday afternoon we pretty much had the theatre to ourselves. This is looking back at the projector from the midpoint in the theatre before it was switched on.
