25/365: Raised to Moonlight

25/365: Raised to Moonlight, originally uploaded by Gregory Pleau.

This tree is along the Lafarge 2000 trail west of Freelton, Ontario. We were geocaching along the trail, doing our usual Friday night BFL thing. Spotted this tree near one of the geocaches, and with the moon shining as strong as it was decided that this tree needed the 14mm treatment. After capturing the initial “as it were” photo, we started playing with flashlights and light painting. This is the third (and last) photo taken of this particular tree. No photoshopping or any of that, just a bit of highlights and clarity tweaking in Lightroom.

23/365: Even The Snow Surrenders.

It’s been a bit chilly the last couple nights. Well, actually a LOT chilly with temperatures I don’t remember even seeing last winter nevermind this winter. That’s keep me from wandering far with the camera or setting up long exposure photos after work. I saw this on the way out of the office, a little white flag marking where the sprinkler heads are for the spring landscaping work but when I saw it I had another vision altogether…..

21/365: Luna’s Friend, Jupiter.

I noticed the moon and the rather bright object not far away from it as I left work tonight. When I got home, a friend messaged me and asked if I’d be shooting the Moon/Jupiter conjunction. Normally I’d jump at an outing but it’s like -15C outside tonight, with a windchill at -25 …. so this photo was taken at the end of my driveway. They won’t be this close in the sky again until 2026 apparently. I didn’t quite have as much zoom lens as I’d like for this – I max out at 300mm, but I do have a stupidly high resolution camera (D800) so I can crop down and still get something nice, like this.
