38/365 : Apple Products.

Today, I decided to put some colour into my photo project. Fortunately, I happened to have a few different apple products around kicking around that would do nicely. This is a quick shot with ProHDR. No editing after the initial photo app.

37/365 : Latté Nose All About It.

Well, this one is one of those excuse to play with the new toy photos. Since Latté insists on sitting on my lap, she got to be my muse for the ōlloclip’s macro attachment. This would be her nose!

36/365: That Windmill on Highway 40.

Every time I drive to (or from) Chatham, Ontario I go by this little windmill on Highway 40. Every time I’ve thought to myself how I really like the way it’s aged with the vines going up it. Every time I tell myself I need to stop and take a picture next time I am in the area. Today, I left Chatham about an hour before sunset. As I was heading down McNaughton toward Communication Road, my eye was noticing the shadow play on the hydro towers and the non-boring, partly cloudy sky. Fate was telling me that I better stop for that photo – I have a habit of putting photos off to find out next time I’m there someone has taken a bulldozer to the structure. So I pulled off the road and pulled out the tripod for once. This is an HDR image of the windmill. The tricky part was keeping my own shadow out of the photo since the sun was so low. I think the ideal time to get a photo of this is around sunrise in the late spring – when there are leaves on that vine. Perhaps I’ll try that next time I’m in Chatham, as long as the farmer doesn’t take it down first.

35/365 : St. Clair River Panorama.

Today I ventured over to Clinton Township, Michigan. It was just a cross-border shopping trip, and we didn’t pick up very much stuff (the day was considered a success just with what a great lunch spot we had). For the trip we took the Walpole/Algonac ferry and I got out and wandered around, camera in hand. The Fuji XP21 has a cute little panorama mode that seems to work rather well, so I opted to use it to capture the view from the boat as we tracked into the USA side of the river.

34/365 : Video Killed the Radio Star, Internet killed the Video Store.

Just a few weeks go by and now Rogers Video has bit the dust in Georgetown. That is the last major video rental company … Gone. You can still rent at a couple convenience stores but the convenience of video on demand, iTunes has sounded the death knell for DVD rentals – in this town anyway

33/365 : Server Noir.

Yesterday was about Apple. Today, the yang to their ying. This is what I work on at the office. It is a Dell Poweredge server with Windows 2008 on it. We also have CentOS servers to round my skill set out. This particular server is about to get wiped and VMWare ESXi is going on so it can put multiple personalities on board.

32/365 : Apple of my Eye.

Well I am back at one of my favourite stores. Picking up an Apple TV 2. These cost about the same as the average monthly cable bill and with the updates to the iTunes store last month it is now plausible for me to kick Cogeco out of the house yet still get my TV programming legally for less per annum. So this year I am going to try the IPTV experiment, without giving all that money to Bell. As for the photo, it is amazing how people simply don’t notice when someone uses their iPhone to photograph an Apple Store.

31/365: Stalker

Decided to have some fun tonight with shadows and cat shaped objects.

To get this effect I have two flashes pointed at the little mouse. The SB-600 is off to the left a couple feet away with a grid on it, and it’s set to 1/64 power to illuminate the mouse.

The menacing cat is provided by placing a cat sculpture three feet back and the SB-800 (at 1/32) with a red gel is behind it pointed at the mouse, with the cat sculpture in between. The exposure is set so the ambient light is eliminated and just the shadows that I want are here.

This was a photo I took for the 31st day of my 365 day photo project.

30/365 : Exit.

No, I’m not giving up on the project. Today I’m just having a little trouble finding the EXIT to the office it seems. During a break I decided that would be the theme of my photo for today. That exit leads right past my office door. I took the photo with my iPhone 4S rather than drag the Nikon out. I like that it didn’t take nearly as much effort to get up there and magnify that EXIT sign by simply holding the phone up to it. The Nikon would have been quite the task getting the tripod in place and focusing it vs just standing on a step stool for a second like I did here. Tomorrow, maybe I’ll see some daylight.
