Snow Creek

Snow Creek, originally uploaded by Gregory Pleau.

This little creek is north of Georgetown. Most people take their camera right up to Snow Creek Falls but I happen to like the view downstream this time of year. I absolutely love when the snow and ice cover the rocks but the water still flows. This was taken on my hike in the area yesterday.

29/365 : Snow Capped Brook.

Went for a walk in the woods today with my wife. This was one of those experiences you only get when you live in a place like Canada, with it’s winters. Walking in the woods, during a gentle snowfall, and stopping to look at the streams with rocks wearing little hats of snow. Very peaceful. Perhaps go get a hot chocolate afterward. You won’t get this experience in Florida, that’s for sure. I didn’t have to travel far for this experience either – this was taken on the Bruce Trail just north of Georgetown. It’s Snow Creek, right beside eighth line.

28/365 : Latte.

Well, today wasn’t about heading out. I cocooned today and spent the day indoors. Part of that involves Latte here, who sits on my lap whenever I am around. So, today’s photo is simply one of my friend here. Get used to seeing her, you’ll probably see her a few times during this project :).

27/365 : Devil’s Punch Bowl.

This cross, erected by William Sinclair on December 18, 1966 illuminates Devil’s Punch Bowl in Stoney Creek. The cross is 10 metres tall and can be seen from most of Stoney Creek below the Escarpment. I was geocaching in the area when the shadow play here caught my eye. The image is an HDR taken with my Nikon D200 and a pretty sturdy tripod.

26/365 : Death By Traffic.

Managed to get here just as the rain was starting. I took a few photos pointing the camera to the west but the photos didn’t come out quite the way I wanted. As I was getting ready to leave the wind dropped for a few minutes which allowed me to point the camera east and get the headlights. Richview Memorial Cemetery has a rather unique situation here. You see, when they decided to put the cemetery here it was simply outside Malton. Now, the cemetery is surrounded on all sides by some of the busiest highways in Canada … this is right inside the 401/427 interchange. I first learned about this spot several years ago because of the geocache nearby.

25/365 : Harbingers of Suburbia.

Stopped on my way home to get today’s photo. This is on 17SR just northeast of Georgetown. It’s where a few months ago these bulldozers arrived an quietly started changing the rolling farmland into a suburb. Soon, the view here will be just rows of houses. This was fun to shoot – the camera was across a busy road, so I had to occasionally cover the lens with my jacket to stop the headlights from burning in as they passed. 2 minute exposure at ISO 200.

24/365 : Blackberry Blues.

I didn’t really think this would be my photo du jour but it really is the best representation of how my day was spent. We have had an unusual string of temperamental equipment at work and this was the big puzzle today. I could complain but this is also what puts food on my table so, c’est la vie. I did manage to fix it after an hour or so

23/365 : Pattern of Dye.

One of those things about life. We have this hair that grows and needs tending to. Another reality is that some people would rather their hair was a different colour. While mine us still tending toward grey. I was here for a trim, and while waiting my turn found my photo-de-jour which today would be a simple pattern shot. No tinting my hair on this trip. If it goes grey then I can meter using it … as long as I can keep it around 18%….

22/365 : Doi Chaang.

Today’s photo is more something for the todo list. While shopping at Longo’s I found that they have a coffee roaster on site. That’s one way to get my attention. Another is Thai cuisine. Here I found both – they carry Doi Chaang coffee here which I may just have to try some time!

21/365 : Lingham Sunset.

Today I hiked 29 km in the snow for a series of geocaches around Lingham Lake. Here, the sun is setting on a creek that feeds the lake. I’ve got about 12km of hiking to get back to the car at this point. This image is right out of the camera (D200). I took ~420 photos today, some will be post-processed and appear on my other photo feeds.
