327/365: Caching, At Night.

This is an image of my friend John who operates a night caching store. We were out beta testing our BFL Boot Camp 7 caches, and I happened to be carrying my f/2.8 lens, which let me take his portrait, handheld with just a couple LED flashlights illuminating him. John is an organizer of the event and we were out testing the geocaches ahead of the event this weekend.

326/365: Misty Mornings.

I love a foggy morning. Seriously I do. When I walked out the door to go to work it was like Christmas and candy canes for a photography minded person like myself. I have a few “goto” spots for days like today, and I picked the one at the top of the hill in Norval for this one.

325/365: Night Cache Guardian.

BFL Boot Camp 7 is fast approaching. Here is an image of one of the organizers, Avernar guarding the “Final” from would be early cachers. Oh for those of you who would like to reverse engineer the photo, it wasn’t taken at the actual location of the “Final”. When the fog rolled in around us last night, I knew what kind of image I wanted for photo of the day. Light provided by my 820 lumen “BFL” on a tripod behind John.

324/365: Missed by Latté.

Nice long day at work today, again. Pretty much felt like collapsing on the chair when I walked in the door, and that pretty much made Latté’s day. Nothing she likes more than when I sit still and she can lie down on my lap, or in this case, my legs. Fortunately for my photo project I had placed the D800 fairly close by my chair so I could reach around and capture this moment of bliss.

323/365: Tied Up.

Well, after my lens upgrade yesterday, naturally I’ve been itching to put it to use. I was up in Huntsville with Kristen over the weekend, and we decided to stop in Gravenhearst on the way back home for breakfast. The Wharf area of Gravenhearst is a great spot to walk around with a camera. Here, I’ve found one of the ropes tying off the Seguin for the winter to the town docks. I’m going to have a lot of fun with this lens – naturally I shot at f/2.8, “because I can”.

322/365: Fully Armed and Operational.
Today I got an early birthday present. It pairs nicely with the D800, and will likely be my walkabout lens now. Up to this point I have mainly shot DX Crop on the camera as frankly my DX lenses were better, lighter and had more zoom range. On the downside it is noticeably heavier than any of my other lenses but wow are the pictures better from this lens. I am looking forward to learning it’s personality. All lenses have unique characteristics. Thanks Kristen! Photo taken with my iPhone.

321/365: Diwali Lights.

Back to a favourite spot of mine to visit (particularly with a camera). This is BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in northwest Toronto. It’s a very impressive building any time of the year, or time of the day. They’re really putting on a show now though as part of the celebrations for Diwali, so I dropped by shortly after dusk to capture the building again. The reflection is actually off a fountain that is shut off for the winter. For more information about the facility, please visit http://toronto.baps.org

320/365: Starlight Forest.

Just a quick shot of some local trees with some very not local stars. We’re getting ready for BFL so I’m seeing this sort of view a lot!

319/365: Bright Idea.

Micros. The bane of the geocacher, or is it. You never know when someone is going to have a bright idea do you? Next weekend is BFL Boot Camp 7, an all night geocaching event in North Halton. We’ll have a few bright ideas of our own when it comes to geocaching at night.

318/365: BFL is Coming…..

Just over a week left until BFL Boot Camp 7, our annual night themed geocaching event in North Halton. These ammo cans will soon be waiting for the first visitors of the night. For the photo, I tucked a flash in one of the containers and scattered them in my front yard, with some of the leaves that I hadn’t quite raked up yet. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend at the event.
