297/365: More Pumpkins.

Found these at the local grocery store tonight. Just sitting out in the rain, so I grabbed a pic with my iPhone and carried on into the store.

296/365: Put the Needle.

Had a few old hard disk drives to get rid of at the office. My normal method of wiping the data is to open the drives, grab the magnets for geocaches and then screw up the platters before passing what’s left on for recycling or disposal. On the other hand, I can pause part way through and make a cool photo with two hard drives opened up and facing each other. Quite the challenge keeping the reflections under control – those platters are the shiniest things ever.

295/365: Abstract Architecture in Blue.

Here’s a view of something I just had to point my camera at. This is a cold storage facility that’s under construction … well, expansion actually … in Mississauga. At this stage in the construction there is a large grid of steel beams that rises into the sky and has one heck of a shadowplay thing going on near sunrise and sunset. Today I was here an hour before sunset which gave me interesting lighting. I pretty much pointed the camera at it from almost 180 degrees positioning the sun where I wanted it. Since it’s photo-a-DAY, I had to pick just one so here’s a view from the south side with the light falling off toward the right hand side of the image.

294/365: Winter is Coming

Enjoyed a 30km hike with geocaching friends today. The hike followed the Bruce Trail from Hogg’s Falls in Grey County to the John Muir Lookout, that looks over the Beaver Valley. This photo is from about half way or so, where there is a clear view over the valley to Eugenia Falls. Most of the tree canopy has blown away from the autumn storms but there’s still some yellow and orange here in the valley. This bare tree reminds us that after autumn, winter will soon follow.

293/365: Pumpkins!

It’s October, and we’re coming up on Halloween and that requires …. Pumpkins! These were spotted at a roadside farmer’s stall in Brampton. In another week a bunch of them will likely have faces in them!

292/365: Heart Lake Wetland.

A view of the wetlands bordering Heart Lake Conservation Area. I parked on the side of Heart Lake Road to grab this early morning view of the wetland as the air was calm and making for lovely reflections of the autumn colour.

291/365: When I Grow Up.

Spotted this as I was getting ready to leave the office. We have these great big file cabinets then there’s this little one, that looks almost like it’s still finding it’s way around here. It just kind of says “new kid on the block”, or perhaps the file cabinets are participating in take your kid to work day. Either way, it made for a fun photo with an ultrawide.

290/365: St. Elias at Night.

Driving home from work tonight. It seems that I’m missing sunset more every day. Anyhow, that means stars come out and I sure did notice the stars in the sky over the west side of Brampton approaching Norval. About half way home I got the idea that I’d like to revisit St. Elias (The Ukranian Church) and see how it looks with a starscape behind it. Here’s my result from a 30 second exposure at ISO 1250. Seems I almost enjoy using my camera more at night than I do during the day. Almost.

289/365: One of those days.

One of the things Halton does differently than other GTA municipalities is how they warn about upcoming construction work. They don’t. While other municipalities will put up a sign a week in advance to warn about closing a major throughfare during the Monday morning rush hour, Halton doesn’t feel the need to manage the traffic chaos by letting people take another route. Nope. Here you see the lineup of cars, going to the horizon on Heritage Road in Brampton. The backlog went from Steeles Avenue up past Mayfield, a good 5-6 kilometers. Why? Because someone decided to close Winston Churchill Boulevard during the Monday morning rush hour, this would be the main route that Georgetown’s 49,000 residents take to get to employment areas in Mississauga and Toronto. The spillover onto Heritage (the next north south route after passing the barricaded Winston Churchill) blended with the Erin/Orangeville crowd and voila! Instant hour long commute delay that could have been eliminated if the cars knew about the closure in advance. I would have taken Trafalgar myself.

288/365: Close Connections.

Here’s another office photo. It’s fun stretching the boundaries of my photography by finding a creative way to shoot the mundane. Like the office phone system. Here’s a closeup on the BIX terminals that tie all those phones together near the demarc point. What I always like about this stuff is the amount of colour available in the wiring. iPhone with an Olloclip macro lens and a second iPhone providing up close lighting (LED Flash on flashlight mode)
